1. New York Times Best Seller
2. Don’t eat fast food – I have narrowed my definition of fast food to the burger houses. Subway, etc. are fair game.

Enterprise of One Becoming its Own Site

As many of you are aware, I have been writing my first book for some time. The concepts of the book are getting close to completion and I hope to release it next year. The working title of the book has been Enterprise of One.

In the next week or so, I will be launching a new site related to the book, and a blog to accompany it. This site was never really meant to serve as a tool for entrepreneurial information and discussion, something that there seems to be some pent up demand for these days.

Over the past year, I have really taken note of the fact that there seem to be two major areas where entrepreneurs get hung up. The first is in getting started and following through in the first place. It seems that there are many would-be entrepreneurs that have great ideas but never really seem to get them off the ground. Whether it is nerves, time, or money, the ideas just seem to sit. The second area that many entrepreneurs have difficulty with is applying tried-and-true principals of business and economics in their businesses. There is a wealth of information in our universities that doesn’t seem to be applied by many business people. I hope that the new website can help with these two areas. I also believe that some engaging conversation between entrepreneurs could be very productive.

I plan to start posting my business-oriented articles and stories on that new site soon, and this blog can return to its original intended purpose: a simple blog for me to jot down some ideas and random thoughts. Watch for the announcement of the new site soon.

What are you looking for online, related to entrepeneurism, that you can’t find? I’d love to hear below.

Why FaceTime is the most important announcement Apple made this year

I know, I know, before you email me – Apple released the iPad, iPhone 4, A new Apple TV, Ping, etc., all this year. How can FaceTime be the most important product/service Apple has announced in 2010? Because it gives them a tremendous head start and leverage.

What do I mean by this? Let me explain. We all can see that the landline phones are dead. Not far behind them are the cable companies. Finally, the wireless networks will obviously need to increase the importance of wi-fi as their primary product/service to remain relevant. Facetime gives Apple a head start into its development of a phone product that uses wi-fi only.

Remember that Apple doesn’t normally invent new technologies. Rather, it tends to take existing, underused or under developed technologies, and turns them into something that is amazing and we believe that we needed all along.

With the release of FaceTime for the Mac this week, you can use your email address, over wi-fi through your cell phone to speak to someone on their computer. The important thing here is not the video conference, per se, however. What is important is the fact that you use your email address as the unique “number.” Phone numbers on their way out. We all know that. This post on TechCrunch sums it up well. Email is a logical replacement.

Apple is doing a number of things with FaceTime. First, it is developing its software and working the bugs out, for future wider roll out. Second, it is signaling to the cellular carriers that they better play nice with Apple and the iPhone, because how long they can hold onto the cash cow of cellular minutes could depend in part on Apple’s product time cycles. How soon will full replacement be available? Third, Apple is testing the market to see if people are really ready to start to let go of their phone numbers and move to the next identifier for all of your personal communications – your email address.
